Recording Gameplay and Commentary

The latest and most popular trend with video games these days is to record gameplay along with commentary and post the video on Youtube. There are a number of reasons that people do this.

One reason these videos are posted and such a hit is because they share the players expertise in the level of the specific video game they are playing. Another reason is to provide others with first hand footage of a specific video game. I believe the main reason that video gamers are making these gameplay videos is for money. If they get enough hits and views on their videos they can be invited to add specific advertising to their video. Then they get paid when you either view the video or click on the add.

You can walk into stores and buy game books for video games and the gameplay videos are little snippets of what can be done in the video games being featured. It is the video version attempting to replace the book version of cheats, codes and bonuses. Search what code or bonus you want to find or defeat and you probably will find a Youtube video on it.

I am curious just how much gamers go to Youtube and view these videos for the purpose of bettering their game. Take a moment and answer this survey below.

What purpose do you watch video game gameplay/commentary videos?
